Yemen Security Source Denounces Killing Protester in Taiz Province

Taiz, Mar 24, 2011- A security source denied the reports by Aljazeera Satellite Channel that a protester had been killed and others injured in Taiz province. The source told Saba that the reports were untrue and aimed to distort the facts and incite chaos.

However, a conflict took place between citizens and officials from the electricity station in al Ma'afir district after the people expressed their anger over the blackouts.

The citizens headed to the station and tried to break in to attack the staff and loot its equipment but the guards prevented them, he said, pointing out that when the guards saw the citizens had planned to intensify their attack, they fired bullets killing a civilian and injuring ten others.

After the incident, the director of the station and other officials were arrested and investigations are continuing, the source said.
