Capital Plunges into Darkness after Power Lines Attacked in Marib

Sana'a, Mar 21, 2011- The Electricity and Energy Ministry said the electric towers supplying power from the Marib gas-fired power station to the Secretariat Capital were attacked on Sunday, blaming the attacks for the continuous blackouts.

Saboteurs attacked a number of the power lines in Marib sending the station out of service, the ministry said, adding that the outages will continue over the next days at an average of 8 hours a day.

About 40 per cent of the power supply to the city is being lost, a source at the ministry made it clear, pointing out that engineering teams can't tackle the damages to the electric towers now because the security forces are still clashing with the saboteurs.
