September 12, 2011

The Yemeni General Union of Municipalities and Housing Workers demanded the quick release for (7) of its members detained since the beginning of September by Al-Ahmar tribesmen.

The kidnapped workers were taken to Ahmars prison in Al-Hasaba region in Sana'a, the union said.

The union threatened to go on strike on Wednesday the 14th of September.

The union said in its statement that the cleaners were on duty when abducted by Al-Ahmar family and were detained in a secret prison while all methods of torture and abuse was practiced against them.

The union appealed to the local and international human rights organizations to stand with them to advocate the cleaners and respect their presence.

The statement issued by the union confirmed that the cleaners are not a party to the conflict between the government and Al-Ahmar Family and therefore they shouldn’t be kidnapped and tortured by any party.
