Gunman Opens Fire in Dhale Injuring Officer, Soldier

Sana'a, June 14, 2011

An officer and a soldier were injured when a gunman on a motorbike fired at them while sitting on highway in Yemen's Dhale province on Tuesday.

A bullet entered the back of officer Ali Abdu, 40, to settle in his abdomen, while shrapnel hit the back of soldier Saleh Al-Sufyani. They were rushed to hospital.

Citizens tried to catch the gunman but he ran away.

The incident comes amid insecurity in some southern cities due to unrest and sporadic battles between the police and armed people.
