Clashes in Aden amid Tight Security to Prevent Infiltrations from Violence-Hit Cities

Sana'a, June 16, 2011- Clashes were reported between the security forces and armed people in Yemen's business capital Aden on Wednesday after the armed people heavily fired live bullets into the air frightening the people and looted some properties. No casualties were reported.

The confrontations took place at the entrances of Sheikh Othman and Al-Mansoura districts.

The armed people were believed to be of separatists, eyewitnesses said, adding that military vehicles deployed to the streets after the gunmen took two cars that belonged to a private company.

Meanwhile, the security is very tight across the port city to face possible infiltration of militants from Abyan and Lahj, two southern provinces experiencing insecurity amid battles with Islamists and saboteurs.

Also, media outlets said today that Defense Minister met on Tuesday with security leaders and urged them to secure Aden and prevent possible infiltrations from other cities.
