Somali Dies in Yemen Prison Riot
GHAIDHA- Feb 27, 2011- A Somali convict died when a group of the inmates inside the Central Prison in Mahra's capital Ghaidha conducted a riot aiming to confuse the jail guards and in an attempt to escape, a local official said.
The African, Umar Muhammad Saleh Hassan, was one of the inciters to the rioting and was sentenced to death. He died from his injuries as he arrived at hospital, the source said.
Two wards were burned in the rioting that also resulted in the escape of four inmates including three drug convicts, before the authorities brought the blaze and the situation under control inside the prison, the source said.
